connections

Enroute to W Seattle for my Mom visit last Tuesday, I saw this flat bed truck carrying several huge metal objects. I looked closer and decided that they were boat propellers, some very large propellers! I had just finished some prep work for some wiring I'm doing at home, and I chuckled at the "L" and "R" notations on the yellow ones towards the front of the truck bed. I thought about the black wire/white wire...connections I had been working on. Same principles, different sizes, and you for sure wouldn't want to get them mixed up.

gauze

It's amazing how good it feels getting up a few hours later! Inday started at 6am today, not the usual 4am, so it meant waking up at 4:15 instead of 2:15. Yeah! Even though I technically have the same amount of time before my Tues visit Mom routine, it seems like I gained a lot more. Because I got more sleep, I'm not walking around with the feeling that I have gauze wrapped around my head, and I'm getting all kinds of things done! Again, yeah!

stuck in the Haj

I am first and foremost a 'walker', but there's something magical when I go for a bike ride like I did this morning. It's just so smooth, and I can ride through, or fly through 3 or 4 of my regular walking routes in one riding session.
This morning I rode south along the Green River to Ft Dent and the Southcenter area, up to the LRT station on 99, and then I turned back north in a kind of loop ride. I actually coasted much of the ride back down the International Blvd (99) to our house. Cool, literally...
I thought the Sounders had some kind of soccer thing happening when I got to Ft Dent, and I didn't realize it was some kind of Muslim event until I found myself in a river of Muslim families on the bike path exiting the park. It felt like I somehow got stuck in the Haj...

river of fire

This is a procession that is part of Cebu's Sinulog Festival. It's Cebu's main annual festival, and we will be able see this "river of fire" from our condo...

parking lot

Since I had a little shopping to do this morning, I did what I call one of my 'urban' walks down in the Southcenter area. It's always fascinated me when I see someone blocking traffic in order to park a little closer to the front door. I saw one of these characters going through this routine when I was returning to my car towards the back. He wasn't disabled or anything. He was a middle aged guy with a pot belly, and walking a few more steps would have probably been good for him. Just saying...

time...

Saturday, August 11th:
I know my days have been busy when I look at my desk calendar, and it's still on Tuesday, August 7th.

Spending more time recently at my mother's retirement home, and watching the residents scoot by with their walkers, etc, I've been thinking about how old I look lately. I look in the mirror, and I'm still the same person inside, but the outside sure changes over time... Reminds me of a story, or something that I actually witnessed (I can't remember - another sign of aging), of two people meeting after many years apart, and one of them doing a double-take and saying "is that you Ralph?'
ps - the glasses are a whole 'nother story

graffiti

One of my favorite walking routes goes under some railroad tracks out here, and one of it's highlights is the graffiti art. I've been photographing them over the past few years, and this is one of my favorites. I took this photo today, and I think it was done within the past week or two. Very nice.
